LUMO
This Privacy Policy describes how Lumo (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the Lumo mobile application (the “App”) and the website learnwithlumo.app (the “Site”). We keep this policy short on purpose — and we keep the data we collect short on purpose, too.
1. Information we collect
Voice audio and exercise answers
Lumo's core feature is speaking practice. When you use a speaking exercise or talk with a character, the App records or streams your voice and sends it to Google's Gemini AI service (via Firebase) solely to evaluate your pronunciation or generate the character's reply. Written exercise answers are sent the same way for grading. This content is not used to identify you, build a voice profile, or serve advertising, and we do not store your recordings on any server of our own.
Learning progress
Your game progress — completed chapters, mastered phrases, earned rewards, journal notes, and the nickname you choose in the story — is stored locally on your device. We do not maintain user accounts and do not sync your progress to our servers. Small summaries of your progress (for example, phrases you find difficult, and your in-game nickname) may be included in AI requests so characters can personalize the conversation.
Purchase information
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Our subscription-management provider (RevenueCat) receives anonymized transaction records tied to a random identifier — not to your name or email — in order to unlock content you have purchased.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, a pseudonymous device token is registered with Apple's and Google's push services (Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can announce new chapters. Practice reminders are generated locally on your device.
Diagnostics and analytics
The App does not include third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and analytics collection is disabled in our configuration. A device-integrity check (Apple App Attest) is used to protect our AI services from abuse; it transmits device attestation signals, not personal content.
2. What we do NOT do
- We do not sell your personal information — to anyone, ever.
- We do not show third-party advertising in the App.
- We do not use your voice recordings for anything other than pronunciation feedback.
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, or browsing history.
3. Service providers
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate the App: Google (Firebase and the Gemini AI service — speech and text processing for pronunciation feedback and character conversations, push notifications, remote configuration, and app-integrity checks), RevenueCat (subscription management), and a content-delivery network that serves downloadable chapter assets (these downloads carry no personal data). These providers process data to provide their service to us, under their own privacy commitments.
4. Data retention
Learning progress lives on your device: deleting the App deletes it. Voice audio and exercise answers are processed to produce feedback and are not retained by us; our AI provider may retain request data briefly for abuse prevention under its own policies. You may contact us about your data at any time (see Section 6).
5. Children's privacy
The App is designed for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction) without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
6. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including under GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@learnwithlumo.app — we will respond within 30 days.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, access controls, and the principle of collecting as little as possible — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but minimizing what we collect is the strongest protection of all.
8. The Site
The Site (learnwithlumo.app) is a static website. It does not set tracking cookies and does not run third-party advertising or analytics scripts. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address as a technical necessity of serving the font files.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes may be announced in the App.
