Features
Everything serves the story
Lumo isn't a pile of exercises with a mascot on top. Every mechanic exists to make you speak, listen, and think in Croatian and Serbian — because the story needs you to.
Conversation
Talk with the coast's most patient locals
Every chapter is full of characters with their own voices and personalities — the mustachioed café owner, the fisherman Luka, the market seller Ana. You don't answer quiz questions; you hold real conversations that move the plot.
Characters respond to what you actually say, encourage you when you stumble, and celebrate with you when a phrase lands perfectly. It feels less like an app and more like being welcomed into a village.
Speaking
Feedback the moment you finish speaking
Tap the microphone, say the phrase, and see word-by-word how you did. Green means you nailed it; anything else shows you exactly where to focus on your next try.
And here's a promise most games can't make: every speaking timer is derived from real native audio. Lumo never asks you to speak faster than a native speaker actually does. The goal is fluency — flowing “like Lumo” — never racing a stopwatch.
Grammar by feel
Build sentences inside living scenes
Words appear as pieces of the world, and you assemble them into sentences that characters actually need to hear. Word order, cases, and endings settle in through your hands, not through tables.
Rules are shown as pictograms, never walls of text — and your first success in any new mechanic is always guided, so you learn by doing from the first second.
Retention
Every phrase comes back — because the story needs it
The coffee you ordered in chapter one? You'll offer one to a friend in chapter four. Lumo's chapters are woven together so that everything you learn is used again in a new, meaningful context.
That's spaced repetition the way your brain actually likes it: not a review queue, but a life where the language keeps mattering.
Progress
Rewards that mean something
Master a chapter — speak its phrases, write its words — and you earn a unique keepsake: the Shell of Memories from the beach, a compass from the mountain road. No random loot, no gems. Each reward is a memory of a place.
A one-minute phrase replay after each chapter locks everything in before you move on.
Phrasebook
Your journey, written down
Every phrase you encounter is saved automatically to your personal phrasebook — with native audio, the Croatian Latin form, the Serbian Cyrillic form, and the English translation.
Heading to Dubrovnik or Belgrade for real? Your phrasebook is the travel companion you built yourself, one chapter at a time.
