Why learn Serbian?
Serbian opens one of Europe's most underrated regions — Belgrade's legendary nightlife and kafana culture, monasteries in green hills, the Danube at sunset. Serbs are famously warm hosts, and a visitor who says even “Dobar dan” in Serbian gets treated like family. Is Serbian hard? Honest answers for beginners
- Spelling is perfectly phonetic. Serbian follows the rule “write as you speak” — every letter is one sound, always. Reading skills arrive in days.
- Cyrillic is a friend, not a wall. The Serbian Cyrillic alphabet (Хвала → Hvala) maps letter-for-letter to Latin. Lumo shows both scripts on every phrase, so you absorb Cyrillic passively while you learn to speak.
- Cases exist — but phrase-first learning makes them intuitive. You'll say the right endings because you've heard and spoken them a hundred times in real situations, not because you memorized a table.
